I’m Mr. Meeseeks and I’m back!
Apparently, good things come to those who wait. Well, we’ve been waiting for two years, but the old proverb seems to have rung true again, as Rick and Morty will return next month with five new episodes for the show’s fourth season.
Airing on the Adult Swim network in the US on November 10, a trailer for the new series debuted online this morning and it is packed full of witty quips, brutal violence and a return of the Meeseeks.
First of all, we all knew that the Meeseeks would be back at some point. Those crazy blue skinned, ginger haired, stick men first appeared in season one’s “Meeseeks and Destroy” episode. After successfully managing to improve Jerry’s golf game – taking a few hostages along the way – they were never seen again.
Until now! With “Meeseeks and Destroy” being my favourite Rick and Morty episode to date, I let out a full “oooo, yeah” when I spotted them out of the box once again.
But there’s plenty more to cheer in this trailer, including Mr. Poopybutthole exhibiting some fine martial arts skills, a brilliant Doctor Strange mockery delivered by Rick and his lab coat, and a full Morty adventure card – the result of which is a delicious mystery.
As the epic voiceover confirms, “things are pretty much the same; all fucked up.” And let’s be honest, after three glorious seasons of brilliantly baffling tomfoolery, that’s exactly what we wanted to hear.
The fact that it’s only five episodes on the immediate horizon is of no concern to me. It’s all about quality over quantity for now, with the show having already been commissioned for another 70 episodes in total. There is little point in rushing out content. You don’t gulp a fine wine.
For folks in the UK, we will have to wait a little longer for confirmation of an airing date. While all 30 episodes released to date are currently available on Netflix, E4 has purchased the rights to air the show moving forward, so expect the season four premiere to drop on the Channel 4 network at some point after the US release.
