The Mandalorian second trailer reaction

So beautiful it hurts….

The Mandalorian promises to be ground-breaking Star Wars content. The first live action TV show set in a galaxy far, far away and on a box-fresh streaming platform in Disney Plus. Star Wars in a decidedly 2019 flavour.

The second trailer for the series dropped overnight and it had all of the swashbuckling action, beautiful imagery and short word count from our protagonist that made the first trailer so enjoyable.

Much like with The Rise of Skywalker final trailer, this is more a feast of Star Wars imagery rather than a plot driven taster. We don’t know anything about the narrative of the series and details regarding the characters at the forefront of the series remain guarded, as does Pedro Pascal’s face.

The one line from our central Mandalorian at the end of this Star Wars buffet was a perfect button. When told that there are what we can only assume as hostiles waiting for him outside, our maverick bounty hunter delivers a meme worthy;

“yeah, good.”

Yeah, good, indeed.

When/if he steps into that fight, it’s bound to be epic. The action set pieces teased in this trailer look stunning. The combat feels grounded and the cantina fight scene – which I’m guessing is a spectacle in episode one – looks just as effortlessly cool as it did when we caught a glimpse of the commotion in the first trailer.

But it’s not all going to be blasters and trandoshan’s getting punted by rifles. Clearly The Mandalorian will have a number of emotional beats as well. Werner Herzog’s character says “it is a shame that your people suffered,” which suggests that the history of Mandalore will also be central to the series.

This is what is most exciting, as it opens up huge potential to tie in references and plot points from not only The Clone Wars but also Rebels and with Dave Filoni on board with the project, you can bet every credit in the bank that fans of the animated shows will be rewarded.

Yet all of the hype that this trailer generates has to be tempered, unless you happen to live in the USA, Canada or The Netherlands. For everyone else, we’ll have to wait for our Mandalorian fix.

Early 2020 has been as close to a Disney Plus platform release date as the UK has been given thus far, with a delay to the rollout no doubt a result of legacy deals with Sky that are yet to expire.

This trailer does a sterling job of keeping plot secrets concealed. Unfortunately, it’s boardroom contracts and distribution agreements that will serve to undo the surprises.

There is not a snowball in hell’s chance that Star Wars fans in the UK will be able to reach the 2020 launch without stumbling across the odd spoiler. Unless you are determined enough to take a three to five month vacation to Dagobah, you might as well give up on avoiding Mandalorian details.

And that’s a huge shame, especially considering that those with far less integrity than myself may search for alternative ways to watch – which is nothing short of a middle finger to the visionary creators behind what promises to be a feast of Star Wars goodness.

As much as you may want to watch on November 12, have some respect for those that have worked to put the project together.

It’ll be worth the wait.
